How did you two meet?
Jack and I met during our first couple of months at college, October 2014. As I was walking to find my bus at the end of the day, we spotted each other as Jack was stood with a group of friends. After looking back at each other three or four times, the rest is history.
When did you know he was the one?
I knew Jack was the one as soon as we saw each other. It sounds cliche, but it really is true; you know as soon as you see that one person, that you’ll be with them for the rest of your life. I knew Jack and I would end up being an incredibly large part of each other’s lives, and I know Jack felt the same. We were head over heels for each other the moment we saw one another, and that feeling has never changed. We are best friends, soul mates, and now husband and wife, navigating the wonderful journey that is life together.
What about the proposal, how did it go?
Oh the proposal! Well… Jack had it all planned out months in advance. He would take me to Edinburgh just before Christmas; a time full of magic and sparkle! He would walk me up to Edinburgh castle and hey presto, the ring would be on the finger! Little did Jack know, asking me 2 months prior what my ring size was did give the game away a little… Nonetheless, 4 trips up to Edinburgh castle later and he so lovingly got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. However… 4 trips up that steep hill and I was fuming!! I was anxious and convincing myself I’d overthought everything and totally misunderstood the purpose of the gorgeous little trip he’d organised! My face said it all at the start of the video he secretly filmed; absolutely shattered and aching from multiple trips up this massive hill! Regardless, my answer was an instant yes and we had such a laugh afterwards. Fast forward 2 weeks and we realised we had actually been caught behind a Scottish news broadcast, live on TV! It was a whirlwind, but neither of us would have changed a thing, it was perfect.
Tell us about your venue.
We must have viewed nearly every venue in England (no joke). Nothing felt as though it embodied us as people or represented our personalities as we wanted it to. We almost made the decision to elope until we found Runa Farm, and oh my goodness it was perfection. We instantly felt at home with the whole aura of the venue and bonded with the staff immediately. Everything about the venue complimented the style of wedding we wanted and it felt too good to be true. The genuine beauty of the place completely blew us away and it was so easy to envisage our perfect wedding. We booked our date the very next day. We genuinely could not recommend this hidden beauty enough, it is absolutely breathtaking.
What was your wedding style/inspo?
The absolute dream for our wedding was for it to represent us as a couple. We wholeheartedly went into wedding planning with the intention of creating nothing more than something we adored, independent of the immense amount of inspiration out there. We decided on the colour scheme of rust orange and beige, then styled this independently through accessing floral wholesalers and finding everything else we loved online! It was extremely time consuming, but we would not have changed a single thing about the style of our day.
Tell us about your dress!
If it wasn’t for Elizabeth Kate Bridal, I genuinely don’t think I would have felt as truly beautiful as I did on the day. I had an idea as to the dress I thought I wanted; the ladies understood this implicitly and delivered the exact dress I thought I’d fall in love with. To my surprise I didn’t fall in love, but Kim and Holly were INCREDIBLE… they understood my insecurities and body type and found the most perfect dress I never thought I would choose, and goodness was she beautiful, perfect, and just drop dead gorgeous. As soon as I tried on my Enzoani wedding dress I felt so genuinely pretty and knew within the first appointment it was the dress for me. I spoke with the ladies about adding sleeves for the ceremony and they could not have been more accommodating to my vision. I’m in absolute awe of these ladies.
They are truly at the top of their game and it is clear how passionate they are about supporting everyone that walks through their door to feel nothing other than perfect. The entire experience at Elizabeth Kate Bridal was faultless; Kim and Holly will forever have a special place in my heart for helping me find the most incredibly beautiful dress that embodied me completely! Plus everyone was genuinely speechless about how gorgeous my dress was, which was lovely!
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
My favourite part of the wedding day was walking down the aisle and staring at nothing other than Jack. I have never felt an emotion like it; knowing I was about to marry my best friend was a feeling I will never forget. Our ceremony was beautiful, and our registrars felt like family (they even got emotional alongside everyone else)! Our entire day was filled with pure love and joy. Everyone was on cloud 9 and the ceremony embodied this completely. We can’t put into words how perfect everything was, especially this moment we shared with our dearest family and friends.
Any changes? (Things you wish you’d done or wish you hadn’t!)
Reflecting on our day, the one thing we wish we would have incorporated was a dip kiss half way back up the isle once we were married! We were so caught up in the elation of being newly married, dancing up the isle to Fireball by Pitbull, we completely forgot to take a moment and dip for the camera! Nevertheless, thinking back to the moment still gives us goosebumps and without the dip kiss, it was still beautiful.
Any tips for brides to be?
The biggest piece of advice I would give future brides would be to stay with your partner for the entire day. Jack and I made a pact to stay with one another for the entire day, and it still went by in a flash, even hand in hand. Blink, and we’re already 3 months married. Your day will honestly go by so fast, and there’s nothing we’re more grateful for than having memories of the day together and by each other’s side the entire time. Make sure the decisions you make about your day are done so because it’s what you guys want. Don’t take note of social media or anyone else’s wedding experience. Your day is unique to YOU, and should be nothing other than what you both want.
Enjoy the planning process; it will be overwhelming, and it will be stressful, and at times it may make you feel like putting it all in the bin and just eloping, but honestly, you will miss it when it’s all done and dusted (trust me)! I was convinced I wouldn’t miss planning; doing my Masters Degree alongside working full time and I was ready for the day to arrive and the planning to be all over, but gosh I miss it SO much! Enjoy every single moment. Your wedding is not just the day, it’s the night’s spent together planning, the days before packing everything into boxes, and the evenings spent making sure everything is in order. It’s all a beautiful process. Enjoy it all together, and most importantly on the day, feel every emotion unapologetically, because you made it!
