How did you two meet?
We met through a friend at university. I was at the end of my first year and he was at the end of his second. At the ages of 19 and 21.
What about the proposal, how did it go?
Every year at Christmas we like to have a day to ourselves, to distance from the hustle and bustle and just be together. The day before the proposal, Brad got incredibly nervous and staged a phone call to my parents, saying that it was to check a Christmas present he was getting me with my mum. This was actually to ask permission from both my mum and dad. Very traditional of him!
The day of the proposal we spent the day walking around a lovely farmers market and then returned home to get ready for a meal together. We went out and had a lovely time, really wining and dining ourselves! As we were about to head home, Brad asked to go for a little walk around to see the Christmas lights. In front of a huge church ruin, with an enormous Christmas tree inside, decked out with lights everywhere, he got down on one knee and proposed! I had no idea he was even thinking about getting engaged! I cried all the way home haha
Tell us about your venue.
We found Rise hall after a long 5 months of viewing and visiting places in Yorkshire. We had a private viewing and felt completely at home. It was the perfect place for my vision of a stately home. I wanted to be really involved with the planning and decorating and they were as hands on as I needed. They helped understand what we were paying for and treated us wonderfully! We couldn’t have been more eager enough to start planning!
What was your wedding style/inspo?
I really wanted to have a bridgerton and downtown abbey inspired set up. Something traditional and English garden themed with a mix of colours throughout.
Tell us about your dress!
I saw the dress I chose about a year before even trying it on! It was the Eva Lendel Lika wedding dress. I traveled to Elizebeth Kate to try this dress on specifically and instantly fell in love! We added custom straps onto the dress for my security but I felt beautiful! No other dress compared!
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
My favourite part was seeing everyone have such a good time. After all of the planning just Brad and I, it was lovely to finally share it with our loved ones. To finally see it pay off was worth all of the blood sweat and tears it took to get us there.
Any changes? (Things you wish you’d done or wish you hadn’t!)
This is hard because I loved our day so much but I wish we could have extended our day over the weekend. Wedding weekends are so popular now and I can see why! You never want it to end! It would have been nice to have the wind down after the wedding with all of our friends and family around us.
Any tips for brides to be?
For future brides- it is overwhelming and you are not the only bride that has felt like it! Only do what you want to do and do not let anyone pressure you. This is your day and your guests are there for you! It will be worth every argument, disagreement and down day you have, you just have to keep pushing yourself to make it exactly what you want. Enjoy it! Everyone says how fast it goes but this is your love bubble and live in it a little while. You’ve got this!
