RACHEL AND ARCHIE: Real Elizabeth Kate Bride Wearing Wilderly Adara Wedding Dress

How did you two meet?

We met at college, however despite both going there for two years we only crossed paths a couple months before finishing our A Levels when a mutual friend introduced us. I was quite a geek so didn't want to pursue anything during exams, but that plan didn't last very long- and so once finishing college, going on a holiday with the girls, it was obvious to the two of us that there was something different there, and well- the rest is history.

What about the proposal, how did it go?

The proposal was simply, perfect. It was on our 3 year anniversary, and upto this point we had been long distance at university, in a lockdown together at Archie's family home, and had our big Europe travel plans cancelled- so instead, booked a gorgeous resort in Mexico. We were only 21 at the time which I know is mental to a lot of people, but everything about it was just right. So on the day of the proposal, Arch was so quiet- he had a job interview whilst we were away (the joys of being a graduate!) so I assumed that was why, so when he suggested we go for a walk I didn't think much of it. It was a gorgeous sunset, and as we walked to the beach we had to go through lots of winding paths in some mangroves/jungle sort of thing, and as the path opened up into the beach he suggested he take a picture of me (the boy knows my love for a good sunset pic!) and well, needless to say he wasn't taking a picture, so when I turned around there he was- on one knee. It was private but in nature and just the most lovely intimate experience, one I'll never forget.

What was your wedding style/inspo?

I think we described it as eclectic, colourful and discobally- but not OTT. We always wanted a winter wedding, and wanted to get that warm, fuzzy feeling you get at Christmas without it being a red/green Christmas wedding. Our colours were lots of warm tones of pinks/blues/oranges with lots of sparkles from the discoballs and tassels (really not selling that it wasn't OTT). We had a tassel installation, shimmer wall and lots and lots of flowers and it all came together so beautifully.

Tell us about your dress!

As a plus size bride I was so nervous to go wedding dress shopping, the first time I did the shop didn't stock bigger than a size 12 so I left just feeling embarrassed!

I live in Newcastle but my family are from Crowle, so when my mum suggested I go to Elizabeth Kate I didn't think much would come of it but my god- it was such a confidence boosting, empowering experience. The girls knew just how to fit me into the dresses, how they would fit my body once my actual dress arrived, and didn't just make me try on the classic 'plus size'/ covered up type of dress like a lot of shops do.

My dress wasn't what I thought I'd go for at all, I initially wanted sleeved and no lace, and ended up with the Adara gown which was sleeveless with beautiful large lace appliqué. I felt so beautiful, and the alterations made the dress fit like a glove. It was such an amazing experience and to get it from Crowle where I grew up made it that extra bit special.

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

Probably having all our guests outside and using sparklers. We didn't want to do the classic sparkler line/exit and just added it to the timeline initially as filler till the evening started- but having everyone outside, seeing the chaos of nearly 100 people throwing sparklers around was hilarious in itself but such great memories of how happy everyone was and some of my favourite pictures came from it. It set the tone for our evening where the dance floor was never empty and everyone just seemed happy and full of love.

Any changes? (Things you wish you'd done or wish you hadn't!)

To the day/schedule no- but I wish I'd of bought some umbrellas! Me and my bridesmaids stayed in a cottage onsite the night before and had to run across to the main hall through a lot of rain- the hair and makeup survived but could of definitely done without the sprint on my wedding day!

Any tips for brides to be?

  • 1- Delegate tasks, people love direction/having something to do.

  • 2- stay present- the day goes by so quickly, you don't need to be on your phone so just take it all in and focus on taking every moment in.

  • 3- invest in your photos/videos- I adore our photos and wedding film and the professionalism the two brought was outstanding, they became honorary wedding planners, therapists and aided the day running smoothly- all whilst producing incredible content for us to adore forever.
