How did you two meet?
Edward and I met at university! We both studies at The University of Hull and actually lived in the same student accommodation building in first year. We were very different people in first year though! Ed was a party guy, whereas I was more of a ‘sit with your flat mates watching 'Great British Bake Off’ sort of student, so we never really got to know each other.
I am a great believer in the phrase ‘Everything Happens for A Reason’, and we reconnected in the third and final year of university; we had both changed and grew into very different people. We started talking, went on our first date, and we have been inseparable ever since.
What about the proposal, how did it go?
Ed had booked for us to have a weekend away in a beautiful shepherds hut in Goathland, in the North York Moors. It had a fire pit and a stunning hot tub, which we sat in watching the steam from the steam train as it puffed through the trees. He popped the question in the hot tub with a bottle of our favourite fizz. Needless to say, I bawled my eyes out!
What was your wedding style/inspo?
I have always loved woodlands and forests, so I knew for a while I wanted to get married in the woods. As that was the case, we wanted to go very natural and whimsical with our wedding style. We didn’t have a set colour scheme, just natural greens, browns, ivory, and burnt orange. Lots of beautiful greenery and flowers, and plenty of candles.
We knew we wanted tipis to go with the laid-back natural vibe we wanted for our big day, and Hirst Priory ticked every box for our dream venue.
Tell us about your dress!
My Enzoani LOVE Aisha wedding dress was everything I ever wanted, and the fab ladies at Elizabeth Kate made that all possible. Truth being told, I could have probably picked about 10 dresses from their amazing collection.
My dress wasn’t stark white, it had a lovey vintage colour to it, the skirt had fullness (but wasn’t huge), it had a glimmer of sparkle but not bling, and the lace was the modern, natural, whimsical lace I always wanted (I didn’t want anything too traditional). I had drop sleeves added to my dress and paired it with a gorgeous long embellished veil.
I put the dress on and immediately knew it was the one. Every time I tried it on for fittings, I had the biggest smile on my face.
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
This is a tough one! The day was so busy and honestly went by in a blur. It had everything we dreamed of. Good food, music, fun, laughter, and joy.
One moment that sticks out to me (aside from the ceremony, of course), was sitting at the top table after speeches, watching our guests passing the sharing-style food across the tables to one another. There was laughter and smiles, and everyone seemed so chilled out. It was all the vibes we ever wanted for the day, and I got a wonderful overwhelming sense of happiness and fulfilment. It was a massive “I can’t believe we’ve done it. We’re here”, after 18 months of planning and stress.
Any changes? (Things you wish you’d done or wish you hadn’t!)
It may be cliché, but I honestly can’t think of anything! I only wish the day hadn’t gone so quickly, and that I had more opportunity to speak to every one of our guests, as we didn’t get chance to speak to everyone.
Any tips for brides to be?
Get your planning done early! So many of the suppliers I spoke to were surprised as to how early I had everything planned, booked, and sorted, but honestly it meant so much of the stress was out of the way.
The morning of the wedding I was so relaxed, glass of bucks fizz in hand, just chilling in my room. I had the photographer, makeup artist, hair stylist, and wedding coordinator all commenting on how calm I was and how brides are normally stressed or frantic. Well, I had organised everything and doubled checked everything so far in advance that I knew it was all in hand…nothing to worry about!
